A man who sexually assaulted a schoolgirl and a woman after pretending there was a spider on them has been sentenced to do 180 hours of unpaid work.Kevin Uwaifo, aged 20, assaulted a 15-year-old girl in Glasgow’s Southside on May 30, 2024. He followed the girl after school and falsely claimed, “You have a spider on your back.” He then ran his hand down her back before grabbing her. The victim later identified him at a police station, leading to his arrest.Two days prior to this incident, Uwaifo approached a 53-year-old woman who was with her young grandchildren at Morrison’s supermarket in the Glasgow Fort shopping centre. From behind, he told her, “There is a spider on your back,” while holding a mobile phone in his hand. He proceeded to repeatedly touch her, prompting her to move away. The incident was captured on CCTV, and she reported it to the store manager.Uwaifo pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to two charges of sexual assault. Sheriff Anna Reid sentenced him to two years of supervision. He is also awaiting further sentencing on two other matters at Dumbarton Sheriff Court, one of which involves a similar false spider claim made to a woman on September 23, 2024. His lawyer described his actions as "completely disgusting" and “extremely distressing” for the victims. Uwaifo was also ordered to be on the sex offenders register for two years.
