September 2000 Corrie stars stalked by sex offender A stalker who targeted Coronation Street stars today admitted a string of sex offences against young children. Kevin Sedgwick (42), of Linney Square, Scholes, Manchester, pleaded guilty to seven offences of gross indecency against two girls and one boy under the age of 14 and six charges of taking and making indecent photographs of them when he appeared before Wigan Magistrates Court. Last week, Sedgwick was ordered to stay away from Granada Studios and actresses, Tracey Shaw who plays Maxine Peacock, Jacqueline Pirie (Linda Sykes) and Jennifer James (barmaid, Geena Gregory) for five years after admitting harassing Miss Shaw for five years. Yesterday, the court heard that when the police arrested him for harassing Miss Shaw on August 3, they found a number of camcorder and video tapes in his flat. Prosecuting, Ann Hughes said the tapes showed Sedgwick encouraging children to play games where they would sit on his groin area and jiggle up and down. Ms Hughes said he and the children were fully clothed, but added that the defendant was clearly getting ‘sexual gratification’ from the actions. He also used a camcorder to take videos of a young girl bending over a stool. The court heard Sedgwick had two previous convictions in 1977 and 1989 for indecent assault on a child. Defending, Patrick Heald said Sedgwick, who sobbed in the dock throughout the hour-long hearing, had ‘significant learning difficulties’. Sedgwick was committed to Bolton Crown Court for sentencing on October 10. Magistrates remanded him into custody.
