MAN JAILED FOR LIFE FOR JEALOUS MURDER OF GIRLFRIEND
Kevin O'Regan was found guilty of murdering his girlfriend Donna Williamson in a case characterized by alcohol-fueled jealousy and violence. The crime took place in August of the previous year, when Ms Williamson used a 999 emergency call to report that she was being assaulted by O'Regan, who had also taken a kitchen knife.
During the assault, O'Regan allegedly shouted, "you’re dying mate," before stabbing her twice once in the chest and once in the lung while she was still on the line.
Authorities discovered Ms Williamson's body in the communal corridor of their residence, with the murder weapon a kitchen knife left in the sink.
The Old Bailey court was told that O'Regan had accused Donna of seeing other men at their home.
Detective Inspector John McQuade reported that O'Regan had claimed in court that Donna had reached for a knife and that her stabbing was accidental during a physical struggle.
However, the jury accepted the prosecution's narrative of a lethal attack motivated by alcohol and jealousy.
O'Regan received a life sentence with a minimum term of 20 years to be served before eligibility for parole.
