MAN JAILED AFTER STRANGLING AND CONTROLLING WOMAN
A man from Stoke-on-Trent has received a prison sentence after being convicted of physically and verbally abusing a woman, including acts of strangulation and threats.Kevin McDaid, aged 41 from Eaton Park, admitted to two counts of deliberate strangulation, controlling or coercive behavior, two counts of assault causing actual bodily harm, and assault by beating.
He appeared before Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Tuesday, 7 July, and was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison.
The abuse by McDaid towards the victim occurred over several months in the previous year.
During one incident, he dragged her across the floor by her hair and held a kitchen knife to her face.
After this assault, the woman received morphine for pain relief and required surgical treatment.
On two other separate occasions, McDaid restricted the victim’s breathing by applying pressure around her throat until she started to choke.
