MANCHESTER MAN JAILED FOR LIFE AFTER GIRLFRIEND'S STABBING MURDER
A 45-year-old man named Kevin Mannion has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 23 years for the murder of his 22-year-old girlfriend, Elinor O'Brien, during a violent and controlling relationship.
The incident took place on 16 August at a property located on Great Watson Street in Manchester city centre.
Mannion attacked Elinor with a knife, stabbing her in the chest.
Despite emergency medical efforts, she later died from her injuries.
Mannion was initially arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault and was subsequently charged with murder, wounding with intent, as well as engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour.
Detective Senior Officer Duncan Thorpe described Mannion as an 'extremely dangerous individual' who upheld 'controlling and coercive behaviour' throughout their brief relationship.
He criticized Mannion’s apparent lack of remorse, calling it 'shameful.' Court statements detailed multiple assaults on Elinor, including two stabbings—one in the chest, another in her groin after an argument.
The sentencing judge described Mannion's actions as severe and emphasized the threat he continues to pose, handing down a life sentence.
