KEVIN LANE AND HIS SHOCKING CHILD SEX ABUSE IMAGES IN MANCHESTER
A man from Royton, Kevin Lane, used his professional skills as a computer repair technician to access and download images depicting the sexual abuse of children, a serious criminal offense that was addressed in a court hearing.Lane, who is 53 years old and resides on Wendlebury Green, admitted to multiple charges relating to the possession and distribution of indecent photographs of children, as well as the repeated downloading of such exploitative images over several years.
The court proceedings took place at Minshull Street Crown Court on Thursday, August 4, where Lane faced justice for his actions.
The judge sentenced him to serve a prison term of 21 months, but this sentence was suspended for a period of 24 months.
Beyond the suspended imprisonment, Lane was ordered to register as a sex offender for the next ten years and to comply with a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO), also valid for ten years.
Adding to these restrictions, Lane was also mandated to undertake a 40-day rehabilitation activity requirement aimed at addressing his behavior.
Meanwhile, an internal investigation conducted by Lane’s employers is scheduled for the following week.
This inquiry is expected to result in his dismissal from employment, given the severity of the allegations and his admitted conduct.
During the court hearing, Lane’s defense lawyer, Richard Orme, presented mitigating circumstances.
He emphasized that his client had no prior criminal record and took full responsibility for his actions.
Mr.
Orme expressed that Lane has shown genuine remorse for his conduct.
He also appealed to the judge regarding the potential consequences of Lane’s incarceration on his family, specifically mentioning his son, who suffers from severe medical conditions.
Judge Hilary Manley acknowledged the points raised by Mr.
Orme during her sentencing remarks.
She addressed the court about the gravity of Lane’s misconduct.
She stated, “Over several years, you downloaded images of children being sexually abused.
Some of those images involved very young children.
Due to your occupation as a computer repair technician, you were aware of what you were doing and the measures needed to conceal your activities.” The judge further commented on Lane’s conduct after being caught.
“You lied repeatedly and struggled to accept responsibility until you finally pleaded guilty during the trial, which was beyond the initial accusation.” While recognizing Lane’s expression of remorse—albeit belatedly—and the absence of prior convictions, Judge Manley also emphasized the seriousness of the offense.
Turning to Lane directly, she warned that any failure to comply with the probation requirements could result in the immediate revocation of the suspended sentence.
“If you do not adhere to the conditions set out for you over the next two years, I will have no choice but to activate the sentence, regardless of the impact on your son,” she said.
This case highlights the disturbing reality of individuals exploiting their technical skills for malicious purposes, with Lane’s actions casting a long shadow over his community and the victims whose images he sought to possess.
