Romford Rapist
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Romford, Kevin Jones, a man aged 56, has been officially recognized as a dangerous predator to innocent children. His criminal activities, spanning several decades, have finally culminated in a significant legal judgment after new evidence was brought to light in court proceedings.

Jones is currently serving a substantial prison sentence of 14 and a half years at Pentonville Prison. The recent court session took place at Snaresbrook Crown Court, where he faced multiple serious charges related to sexual abuse. The charges included a total of 12 counts, among which were six counts of indecent assault on a male, two counts of inciting a child under the age of 13 to engage in sexual activity, two counts of engaging in sexual acts in the presence of a child, and two counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.

Kevin Jones did not contest these charges; instead, he pleaded guilty to all of them, acknowledging his guilt in the court. The offenses spanned a long period, with incidents occurring repeatedly between 1977 and 1983, as well as between 2009 and 2011. The victims in these cases were two young boys, and the assaults took place at various locations within the borough of Romford, adding to the distress and trauma experienced by the victims.

This case is not isolated. It follows Jones’s earlier conviction in June at Basildon Crown Court, where he was sentenced for sexual abuse against two girls. That earlier case involved at least 20 instances of oral rape against a girl under 13, along with other sexual assaults dating back to the late 1970s. The severity of his crimes was such that one of the victims reportedly collapsed in court during the initial trial, overwhelmed by the trauma and terrified of giving evidence. She later confided that no one truly understood the full extent of the abuse she endured.

In the latest proceedings, the court heard harrowing details of Jones’s misconduct. The victims were subjected to inappropriate touching and oral sex. During the court hearing, Jones was reported to have told one of the victims, “don’t be afraid, you are going to like what’s going to happen,” and reassured him with comments like “it feels good – you don’t need to worry about it, it’s completely natural,” and “there is no need to tell anyone about it.” These manipulative and coercive words underscored the predatory nature of his actions.

Judge Louise Kamill described Jones as “a man of considerable size – possibly frightening to children,” emphasizing the intimidating presence he held over his victims. The judge sentenced Jones to two and a half years for each of the counts, with some sentences running concurrently and others consecutively, adding to his existing prison term. Despite the lengthy sentence, Judge Kamill expressed that the punishment did not fully reflect the gravity of the offenses committed.

Addressing the court, Judge Kamill labeled Jones “a dangerous predator to innocent children,” highlighting the serious threat he posed. She also acknowledged the constraints imposed by the totality of the case, which limited the length of the sentence. The judge concluded her remarks by praising the courage of the victims who came forward, stating, “The courage of those people coming forward is to be applauded and we all hoped that the consequences they have been through will be diminished and possibly repaired in the future.”

This case underscores the ongoing issues of child abuse and the importance of justice for victims. The community of Romford, and indeed the wider society, is reminded of the critical need to protect vulnerable children and to ensure that predators like Kevin Jones are held accountable for their heinous actions.
