KEVIN JOHNSON SENTENCED IN LEICESTER FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF 15-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN PARK
In October 2021, a disturbing case of grooming and sexual assault unfolded in Leicester, leading to the arrest and subsequent sentencing of Kevin Johnson, a 47-year-old man from Kate Street, Black Friars, Leicester.The incident came to light after a vigilant member of the public observed Johnson engaging in inappropriate behavior with a 15-year-old girl in a local park.
According to reports, Johnson was seen molesting the young girl while she was seated on a bench within the park.
The witness, alarmed by the situation, took immediate action by recording the incident as evidence.
Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, the witness confronted Johnson directly, questioning him about his actions and his age.
The witness then detained Johnson until law enforcement officials arrived at the scene.
Further investigations revealed that Johnson had been grooming the girl prior to the assault.
It was reported that he had been paying her compliments, offering her money and sweets, and gradually instigating sexual activity.
The girl, who has since moved away from Leicester, provided a victim impact statement describing the profound emotional and psychological toll the abuse had taken on her.
She shared that she suffers from nightmares and finds it difficult to trust others, expressing her feelings of confusion and pain.
In her statement, she reflected on her resilience, stating, “I now have to remind myself what he did was wrong – how will I know how to love and what is right for me?
I’m strong and capable and so much more than my past.” Johnson was arrested following the incident and later pleaded guilty to two counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child.
He also failed to attend his court hearing for sentencing scheduled on September 24, which resulted in his arrest on a warrant and his remand into custody.
Prosecutor Philip Gibbs addressed the court, emphasizing the severity of the case, stating, “This involved grooming and there was a large disparity in age.” He further explained that the witness who observed Johnson touching the girl was so concerned that he began recording the encounter to preserve evidence.
At Leicester Crown Court, Johnson was sentenced to three years and five months in prison.
Additionally, he was placed on a lifelong sex offender register, issued a sexual harm prevention order, and subjected to an indefinite restraining order that prohibits any future contact with the victim.
The court’s rulings aim to protect the girl from further harm and to serve as a stern reminder of the consequences of such predatory behavior.
