MAN THREATENED WIFE DURING ATTACK AFTER STROKE AND DRINKING PROBLEM
A stroke victim, Kevin Heyde, 35, grabbed his wife around the neck and threatened to end her life as she attempted to help him after he fell at their home in Bradshaw Drive, Honley.
Heyde, who had suffered a stroke in September 2017, became aggressive that day and shouted abuse at his wife before punching her in the nose.
The victim tried to assist him, but he seized her wrist, told her to go away, then grabbed her by the arm and repeatedly by the neck, saying he could squeeze and break it, and adding, 'I could end your life.' A neighbour heard the commotion and called the police.
Heyde was arrested and admitted to taking medication that increased his aggression, although he couldn't fully remember his actions.
He expressed remorse, apologized, and stated he has sought help for his drinking and emotional difficulties, which he recognized had contributed to his behavior.
Kevin Heyde was sentenced to a six-month community order along with 10 rehabilitation activity days, and ordered to pay £85 court costs and £85 victim surcharge.
He also declared he had quit drinking completely, knowing its harmful impact on his family.
