Kevin Hessell

Pendeen Sexual Abuser

January 2021 Paedophile caught with sick baby abuse footage after tip-off from Down Under A paedophile was caught with sickening footage showing babies being sexually abused after the National Crime Agency received intelligence from a company in New Zealand. Kevin Hessell, 50, was caught after his IP address was linked to indecent images shared on an international file-sharing website. Hessell, previously of Pendeen, was brought to Truro Crown Court for sentence from HMP Exeter after pleading guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children. Prosecuting the case, Ramsay Quife described how on April 30 of last year officers from the National Crime Agency raided Hessell’s home acting on intelligence passed to them from a New Zealand-based file-sharing company. The file-sharing facility had been used to share images of child sex abuse and Hessell’s email addresses and IP address were linked. When officers attended Hessell attempted to dispose of a mobile phone in a kitchen bin, however the phone and a computer tower were seized and found to contain hundreds of sick images and videos created between January 2014 and April 2020. In total there were 57 Category A images including 21 movies, 44 Category B images including six movies and seven Category C images. The footage and pictures included the penetrative rape of children and the abuse of babies. Unusually for these cases, Hessell had been remanded in custody prior to sentencing after leaving his home and having no address to be bailed to. Sentencing Hessell, Judge Robert Linford said: “In April last year you were found to be in possession of a large number of indecent images and photographs of children. “These images are not images that exist in the ether, they are real people. Some of them are images of babies being sexually molested. That’s someone’s daughter, granddaughter, niece being sexually abused and this is extremely serious offending.” Judge Linford went on to state that where there is a sufficient prospect of rehabilitation, a community order can be imposed as an alternative to custody. He added: “This is the approach I’m going to take but this will be the only time.“ Hessell was given a three-year community order consisting of 30 rehabilitation requirement days. He was also made subject of a seven-year sexual harm prevention order.
