KEVIN HATT SHOCKS STOCKTON WITH CHILD ABUSE PICTURES AND INTERNET CHAT REVELATIONS
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the Stockton community, Kevin Hatt, a 55-year-old former hospital worker, has been exposed as a prolific collector and distributor of child abuse images over a period of more than a decade. The revelation came after police uncovered a vast and disturbing digital library containing nearly 128,000 indecent images of children, alongside evidence of online communications with other paedophiles.
Hatt’s secret life was uncovered on October 17, 2018, when officers from Cleveland Police executed a search at his residence in Stockton.
During the raid, they discovered him at home in front of two laptops, actively downloading and viewing illegal material.
When questioned, Hatt admitted to downloading images of child abuse, revealing a long-standing obsession that spanned approximately ten years.
Authorities seized a total of 16 electronic devices from his property, which, upon forensic analysis, yielded a staggering 127,866 indecent images.
Among these, 6,727 were classified as 'category A'—the most severe classification under law—depicting children aged from as young as eight months to ten years old.
These images included scenes of rape, children who appeared to be drugged or intoxicated, and others shown in states of extreme pain and distress.
The police also found over 164 hours of video footage, with the longest single clip lasting two hours, illustrating the extent of Hatt’s disturbing collection.
Further investigation into his online activities revealed that Hatt had been communicating with other paedophiles using the pseudonym 'douggie dread.' Chat logs uncovered by police showed him discussing child abuse explicitly and sharing images with two known offenders.
One of these individuals, who identified himself as 'boylover,' is currently serving a ten-year prison sentence for child sex offences.
During police interviews, Hatt confessed to engaging in viewing child abuse material for a decade, which had led to the accumulation of his extensive and heinous digital library.
His online conversations and image exchanges confirmed his active participation in the illegal trade of child exploitation images.
Hatt, who resides on Greenfields Way in Stockton, faced multiple charges.
He pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children, three counts of distributing such images, and one count of possessing a prohibited image, all committed between 2010 and 2018.
This marked his first conviction.
The court heard that Hatt had maintained a double life, hiding his criminal activities from his family, who remained oblivious to his dark secret.
The judge expressed particular disappointment that Hatt had also enjoyed a respected career working in local hospitals, including a position at the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton as an operating department practitioner.
The judge remarked on the shock his family must have experienced upon discovering his true nature.
While acknowledging Hatt’s remorse, shame, and previous good character, the judge emphasized the severity and scale of his crimes.
Despite the defense’s plea for a suspended sentence, the court decided that the gravity of the offences warranted a custodial term.
Consequently, Hatt was sentenced to three years in prison.
Additionally, he was subjected to a sexual harm prevention order that restricts his use of electronic devices and will remain on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely.
It was confirmed by South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust that Hatt no longer works for the organization, following earlier proceedings.
His case has left a lasting impact on the community and highlights the ongoing battle against online child exploitation.
