KEVIN HALLETT'S SHOCKING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CRIME IN NELSON AND BURNLEY
In January 2019, a disturbing case emerged involving Kevin Hallett, a 60-year-old man from Vine Street, Nelson, who was found to be in possession of a large collection of indecent images depicting children. The investigation began when police executed a warrant at Hallett’s residence, leading to the seizure of multiple electronic devices, including his computer and mobile phone.
During the subsequent police interview, Hallett did not deny his involvement.
Instead, he admitted to viewing the illicit images, claiming that he did not derive sexual pleasure from them but was simply 'curious.' This confession was made before the devices were thoroughly examined by forensic analysts.
The authorities discovered that the devices contained a total of 28 indecent images and videos that were still accessible at the time of seizure.
However, detailed analysis revealed that Hallett had previously viewed a staggering 190 images and videos of children, some as young as three years old.
The material included distressing images of very young children in vulnerable states, which significantly heightened the severity of the case.
Prosecutor Stephen Parker highlighted that Hallett’s search history included terms such as 'eight years and above,' indicating a disturbing interest in children of various ages.
He explained that Hallett claimed his curiosity was sparked by pop-up advertisements while browsing adult pornography, but the evidence suggested a deeper, troubling pattern of behavior.
At Burnley Crown Court, Judge Sara Dodds addressed the court and emphasized the gravity of the offense.
She pointed out the presence of images of children as young as three to five years old, noting that these children appeared to be in distress in the images.
The judge described this as an aggravating factor, underscoring the heinous nature of the crimes.
In her sentencing, Judge Dodds imposed a two-year prison sentence, suspended for two years, on Hallett.
She stated, “You have had a sordid secret, a sexual interest in young children.
These children are victims.
They are somebody’s grandchildren.
They could have been your grandchildren.
These children are victims because of people like you.” Hallett pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images and three counts of possessing indecent images, acknowledging his guilt in the case.
The court’s decision reflects the serious concern over the exploitation and abuse of children, and the need for justice to be served in such disturbing cases.
