KEVIN GRIFFITHS AND SHOCKING CHILD ABUSE IN CHESHIRE
A disturbing case of child sexual abuse has come to light involving Kevin Griffiths, a man from Frodsham, Cheshire, who exploited his position of trust to commit heinous acts against a young child he was supposed to be caring for.The crimes, which spanned over a two-year period during the 1990s, have left a lasting scar on the victim and have now resulted in Griffiths being sentenced to prison.
Kevin Griffiths, aged 66, residing on Ship Street in Frodsham, was found guilty of multiple counts of sexual abuse following a trial at Chester Crown Court.
The court heard how Griffiths repeatedly assaulted the child under the guise of putting them to bed to read a story.
These assaults took place in the privacy of the child's home, with Griffiths abusing the child's trust and vulnerability during these intimate moments.
The Cheshire Police investigation uncovered the extent of Griffiths' crimes, which he committed over a prolonged period, causing significant emotional and psychological harm to the victim.
The court's verdict mandated Griffiths to be placed on the sex offender register for life, a measure intended to protect the community and prevent further offenses.
Detective Constable Beth Colbourne, who led the investigation, expressed her condemnation of Griffiths' actions.
She stated, "What Griffiths did was every parent’s worst nightmare.
He was trusted to look after the victim, but instead of caring for them, he preyed on their vulnerability.
He would take the victim to bed, under the pretext of reading a story, but once they were in the bedroom, he sexually abused them, causing untold harm and distress." She further praised the resilience of the victim, emphasizing that their bravery and determination were instrumental in bringing Griffiths to justice after more than three decades.
Detective Colbourne added, "It is a testament to the strength, bravery, and determination of the victim in this case that we have been able to bring Griffiths to justice, more than 30 years since the offences occurred.
I hope that the conclusion of this case will provide them with some closure and help them with their recovery." The detective also issued a plea to other potential victims, urging anyone who has experienced sexual assault, regardless of how much time has passed, to come forward.
She reassured the public that all reports of sexual offences are taken very seriously, and that investigations are conducted thoroughly, with the victims' needs and wishes at the forefront.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of child abuse and the importance of vigilance and reporting.
The community of Cheshire, and particularly Frodsham, can now be assured that justice has been served in this troubling case.
