Isle of Wight Rapist
In April 2017, a man named Kevin Finch from the Isle of Wight was handed a life sentence after admitting to a series of heinous sexual offenses involving two women and a schoolgirl. The court proceedings took place at Portsmouth Crown Court, where Finch, aged 36 at the time, pleaded guilty to charges including rape, indecent assault, and other sexual assaults.

The case against Finch was initiated following a police investigation into a brutal rape that occurred on the Isle of Wight. The victim, a woman whom Finch had contacted through Facebook, was lured under the pretense of being offered work as a cleaner. Finch arranged to pick her up, claiming she would be working for him for the day. However, instead of fulfilling this promise, Finch drove her to a secluded parking area on Old Blackgang Road. There, he assaulted her violently, punching her in the face and causing a fracture to her eye socket. Subsequently, he forced her into the back of his van and committed a sexual assault.

During the attack, Finch threatened her with death if she disclosed what had happened, then released her from the vehicle. The victim’s ordeal was part of a broader pattern of Finch’s criminal behavior, which was uncovered through police investigations. As a result, two additional victims were identified, linked to offenses committed in 2003 and 2015.

In December 2003, Finch indecently assaulted a woman after she left a nightclub called Chicago Rock in Newport. He approached her on the street in the early hours, grabbed her, pushed her to the ground, and held her down. Fortunately, the woman managed to escape and sought safety with another passerby. The assault was part of Finch’s long history of sexual violence.

More than a decade later, in 2015, Finch contacted a 15-year-old girl via Facebook, offering her work doing general handyman tasks for his business. She worked for him on several occasions before he sexually assaulted her in East Cowes. These repeated offenses demonstrated Finch’s pattern of predatory behavior and his use of social media to target vulnerable women and girls.

As part of his sentencing, Finch, who had no fixed address at the time, was ordered to be added to the sex offenders register for life. The case was overseen by senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Dave Brown, who expressed relief that Finch’s guilt was established and that the victims could find some closure. Brown emphasized that following a serious sexual assault in Niton in October 2016, police conducted a comprehensive investigation that uncovered additional offenses committed by Finch, leading to his prosecution for three separate incidents.

Detective Brown stated, “Finch pleaded guilty to all three offences. I hope the admission of guilt and today’s life sentence can provide all of the victims with closure, so that they can move on with their lives. Thankfully, these types of incidents are rare, and I want to reassure the community that the Isle of Wight remains a safe place to live and visit. Our thoughts are with all of the victims at this time.”

Andrea Hall from the Crown Prosecution Service added, “Kevin Finch is an extremely dangerous offender who poses a very serious risk to women. In addition to violently attacking a stranger, he used social media to target young women under false pretenses of employment opportunities. The evidence from the victims and the thorough police investigation allowed us to secure guilty pleas from Finch without the need for a trial. The victims have shown remarkable bravery in supporting the prosecution, and I hope today’s sentence offers them some comfort.”
