ESSEX POLICE OFFICER ACCUSED OF INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOUR TOWARDS WOMEN
A serving Essex Police officer, PC Kerrie Brown, faces serious allegations of misconduct involving unsolicited, unwanted, and inappropriate behaviour towards three women during and outside of duty.At a misconduct hearing chaired by Assistant Chief Officer Fiona Henderson, details emerged that PC Brown had been flirtatious, making comments such as telling one woman she was 'the best looking' and 'it was a shame she was married.' The officer allegedly tried to look down a woman's top repeatedly and made sexualised remarks towards her.
Furthermore, PC Brown is accused of attempting to inappropriately touch a woman on her chin and shoulder, and of sitting too close to women, demonstrating a lack of regard for personal space.
One woman, identified as Female B, reportedly told the officer to stop as he allegedly tried to look down her top and had inappropriately grabbed her during a night out in Chelmsford in 2022.
Although she shouted to stop, he ceased the behaviour.
Another woman, Female A, spent a night with PC Brown in 2023, after which he allegedly told her he 'did not regret it' and described the encounter as 'ten out of ten,' making her uncomfortable.
There are also allegations of Brown touching a woman’s chin and shoulder without consent.
PC Brown denies all allegations, asserting he can at times be flirtatious but maintains his actions do not constitute misconduct.
His barrister argued that his flirtatious behaviour could be reciprocated by others.
The misconduct hearing is ongoing, and no final verdict has been reached at this time.
