KENNETH WATT'S HORRIFIC CRIMES IN FIFE: SERIAL SEX OFFENDER SENTENCED TO EIGHT YEARS
In a case that has shocked the community of Fife, Kenneth Watt, a man with a long history of violent and sexual offenses, has been convicted and sentenced to eight years in prison for a series of heinous crimes spanning nearly three decades. The conviction follows a detailed investigation by officers from Fife’s Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit, which uncovered Watt’s disturbing pattern of abuse against women and children dating back to 1989.
Watt, now 47, was found guilty of multiple counts of rape, assault, and sexual assault committed over a 27-year period.
His criminal activities included the abuse of a young girl as young as four years old, with incidents occurring between February 1990 and February 1997.
The court heard that Watt subjected this vulnerable victim to violent physical and sexual assaults, causing lasting trauma.
The investigation into Watt’s crimes was initiated in February 2016 after he was identified as a serial offender involved in violent crimes against women and children across Fife.
He was subsequently arrested in June of the same year and faced numerous charges.
During the trial, Watt’s behavior was notably disruptive; he was absent from the dock when jurors delivered their verdicts, and he even lunged at a female officer during questioning, assaulting her in the process.
One of the most disturbing aspects of Watt’s criminal record involves his repeated assaults on a woman between June 2004 and June 2007.
She testified that Watt physically and sexually abused her, with a particularly harrowing account of an incident in late 2005 in a derelict building on Kirkcaldy’s East March Street.
She described her fear, saying, “He told me he was going to stab me.
I was scared.
I was very scared.
I said ‘please no, please no, not here.
Not like this,’” but Watt ignored her pleas.
Further, Watt was convicted of assaulting and raping another woman, whose identity remains protected for legal reasons, during the same period.
His pattern of violence extended to multiple victims, with additional assaults recorded between July 2013 and December 2015.
The majority of these offenses took place within the Kirkcaldy area, highlighting the extent of his predatory behavior within the community.
Lord Brailsford, presiding over the case, deferred sentencing to allow for reports on Watt’s character.
He expressed his astonishment at Watt’s conduct, noting that in his eleven years on the bench, he had never encountered a defendant who was absent from proceedings.
The judge also remarked on the escalation of Watt’s offending behavior, indicating a troubling pattern of increasing violence.
Detective Inspector Hannah Morrison of Fife’s Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit issued a statement praising the court’s decision.
She emphasized that Watt has been sentenced to an Order for Lifelong Restriction, meaning he will only be considered for release when authorities are fully convinced it is safe to do so, given the significant risk he poses to the community.
In a related case from April 2017, Watt, then 46, was convicted of a series of domestic abuse and sexual offenses committed over a 37-year span.
His crimes included repeated physical and sexual assaults on women and children, with incidents dating back to 1979.
During this trial, Watt caused further disruption by shouting from the dock, leading to a 24-hour adjournment.
He also dismissed his legal counsel and refused to listen to his victims’ testimonies, asserting he would not be present for the proceedings.
Throughout the investigation, multiple women came forward, revealing that Watt had committed numerous crimes across Fife, often targeting vulnerable individuals.
His criminal record includes previous convictions for dishonesty, but his recent offenses have been characterized by increasing brutality and severity.
The court heard detailed accounts of his repeated rapes and assaults, which took place in various locations within Kirkcaldy and surrounding areas.
During his time in custody, Watt further assaulted a female officer who was interviewing him, refusing to provide fingerprints or a DNA sample, demonstrating his ongoing defiance and dangerousness.
The community of Fife now grapples with the aftermath of Watt’s long history of violence, and authorities remain vigilant, emphasizing that Watt’s release will only occur when it is deemed entirely safe.
