KENNETH WATSON FROM DUNFERMLINE SENTENCED FOR ABUSIVE BEHAVIOUR IN PERTH

A 32-year-old man named Kenneth Watson, originally from Dunfermline, has been handed down an 18-month prison sentence after a series of abusive and coercive actions directed at his former partner in Perth.

The disturbing pattern of behaviour spanned over nearly a year, during which Watson engaged in relentless harassment, threats, and physical violence, causing significant fear and distress to his victim.

Following the breakdown of their relationship, Watson repeatedly intruded into her private space, forcing his way into her flat on multiple occasions.

His actions included vandalising her property—damaging her belongings and creating a hostile environment—and issuing threats of violence, including alarming mentions of acid attacks and damaging her professional reputation.

These threats were not idle; he left threatening voicemails warning that he would pour acid over her and destroy her life and career prospects, intensifying her fear for her safety.

The period between February and December 2022 was marked by escalating control and intimidation.

Watson demanded access to his partner’s mobile phone, insisting she reveal her PIN and allowing him to check her messages whenever he suspected infidelity.

His obsession with her phone was coupled with aggressive behaviour; on several occasions, he left her menacing voicemails, explicitly threatening to harm her physically and destroy her livelihood.

One particularly alarming incident occurred in March 2022 while she was attending a training course in Edinburgh.

During her absence, Watson punched a hole through the wall of her hotel room, prompting staff to notify her employer and heightening her anxiety about her job security.

The situation worsened in October when she refused to unlock her phone.

In a violent outburst, Watson threw her phone at her, hitting her on the head and smashing the device.

He then physically assaulted her by grabbing her throat, pinning her against the wall, and throwing her onto the bed, where she hit her head.

He continued to press on her neck during a prolonged struggle, but she managed to escape.

Her relationship officially ended on 6 November, but Watson refused to leave her home despite her insistence.

When she demanded he vacate the premises, he responded with further violence, grabbing her throat once again.

Unable to contact her through blocked phone numbers, Watson resorted to financial coercion by transferring money from her bank account, accompanied by threatening messages in the payment references, demanding she unblock his number and warning of further harm if she did not comply.

On 4 December, after a night out, she returned to her home to find it in a state of chaos.

Her mattress and duvet had puncture holes, water was spilled across her bed, and tools—specifically tile-spacers he habitually carried—were scattered across the floor.

The sofa armrest was slit, and urine was found on the bathroom floor.

Overcome with fear, she fled the scene.

Watson later promised to cover the costs of repairs, but the damage had already been done.

Despite her efforts to block his calls, Watson persistently contacted her over 40 times during a four-hour period while she was at a work Christmas event.

He left increasingly threatening messages and accused her of involving the police, further demonstrating his obsessive and dangerous behaviour.

At Dunfermline Sheriff Court, Sheriff Susan Duff condemned Watson’s actions, describing him as “a danger to women who enter intimate relationships with you,” emphasizing the physical and psychological harm he inflicted.

His defence team explained that Watson struggles with substance misuse and PTSD, expressing remorse and suggesting that, if not imprisoned, he would reside in supported accommodation for veterans.

Watson, who has prior convictions for domestic abuse, was credited for his guilty plea and the 216 days he had already spent in custody on remand.

In addition to his prison sentence, the court imposed a three-year non-harassment order to protect his former partner from further contact or intimidation.
