KENNETH QUINN'S HORRIFIC CRIMES IN RENFREWSHIRE AND SCOTLAND BORDERS REVEALED
A man identified as Kenneth Quinn has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after a series of heinous crimes committed over nearly three decades in Renfrewshire and the Scottish Borders. The court heard harrowing details of his brutal abuse, which included physical violence, sexual assault, and emotional torment inflicted upon a woman and a young boy.
Quinn, aged 49 and residing in Elderslie, Renfrewshire, was found guilty of multiple charges following a comprehensive trial at the High Court in Glasgow.
The charges spanned from 1994 to 2021 and involved repeated acts of violence and abuse at various addresses in Paisley, Renfrewshire, as well as locations within the Scottish Borders.
The severity and duration of his actions painted a disturbing picture of a long-standing pattern of control and brutality.
During the trial, jurors learned that Quinn's violent conduct towards the woman began in the 1990s.
The assaults became so frequent and severe that pinpointing exact dates proved difficult.
The victim endured a relentless campaign of physical abuse, which included being struck with a dog lead and shoes, kicked down stairs, and physically assaulted with boots.
She was also subjected to food being thrown at her and suffered a broken arm during one of these episodes.
The court heard that she was humiliated and degraded, often begging Quinn to stop his attacks.
Prosecutor Greg Farrell described one particularly brutal incident where Quinn held the woman in place with one hand while using a bank card in the other to repeatedly strike her across the face.
When questioned about this, Quinn denied the incident, claiming it was a lie.
The victim, however, was described as being terrorized by his relentless violence.
Farrell emphasized that the violence was merciless, with Quinn himself acknowledging the severity of his actions by stating, “It was bad,” when asked to describe his conduct.
Despite his admissions of violence, Quinn denied any sexual abuse, insisting to the court that he was “100% respectful” if the woman did not want sex.
However, during the trial, he confessed to raping the woman when confronted with evidence and her own statements.
He also denied the allegations of the boy being assaulted, although the court heard that the boy was physically attacked on multiple occasions—being thrown down stairs, grabbed by the hair, flung to the ground, and slapped on the head.
The court was shown evidence of the boy being bitten by the family dog after Quinn pushed him down and lunged at him.
In his testimony, Quinn expressed remorse, tearfully stating, “I am utterly ashamed of myself.
I am sorry to the bottom of my heart.” His lawyer, Euan Gosney, asked if he wished to comment on the repeated violence, to which Quinn responded with a sob, acknowledging his shame.
Despite this, he maintained his denial of sexual assault, claiming that the allegations of rape were false and that both the woman and the boy were lying.
Following the trial, the court moved to sentencing at the High Court in Kilmarnock.
Lady Stacey, the presiding judge, sentenced Quinn to 15 years in prison.
The judge described the case as involving a long course of violent and controlling behavior, including assaults with shoes, a dog lead, and even causing injuries such as broken ribs, fractured jaw, and disfigurement.
The injuries inflicted on the woman were extensive, including bruising, lacerations, concussion, and loss of hearing, with some injuries sustained while she was pregnant.
Lady Stacey highlighted the repeated sexual assaults, which were carried out through violence and intimidation, creating an environment of fear and suffering for the victim.
She also noted the impact on the young boy, who was subjected to violence and witnessed his mother covered in blood after one of Quinn’s assaults.
The court heard how these acts had devastated both victims’ lives, stripping the woman of her confidence and self-esteem, and ruining the boy’s childhood.
In her remarks, Lady Stacey emphasized that Quinn’s behavior was disgraceful and that the pattern of violence spanned many years.
She pointed out that although Quinn admitted some of his actions and expressed remorse, he continued to deny the sexual assaults, which the jury had proven.
The sentence was backdated to December 1, 2023, when Quinn was remanded in custody, and included a requirement for him to register under the Sexual Offences Act 2003.
Additionally, non-harassment orders were issued, prohibiting him from approaching or contacting either victim indefinitely.
The judge warned that breaching these orders would constitute a criminal offense, underscoring the seriousness of his crimes and the court’s condemnation of his conduct.
