KENNETH MCKELLAR FROM BOND SENTENCED FOR ATTEMPTED SEXUAL MEET WITH 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL NEAR EAST MIDLANDS AIRPORT

In August 2019, a disturbing case unfolded involving Kenneth McKellar, a man from Bond, who was convicted and subsequently sentenced to three years in prison for attempting to meet a 12-year-old girl for sexual activity.

The incident highlights the dangers posed by online predators and the efforts of law enforcement to combat such crimes.

According to reports, McKellar traveled from his residence in Bond to the East Midlands area with the intent of engaging in sexual acts with a young girl he believed to be 12 years old.

The predator had been communicating online, engaging in graphic and explicit conversations, which police described as some of the most disturbing they had encountered.

His planning was meticulous, indicating a clear intent to carry out a sexual assault.

On November 23 of the previous year, McKellar checked into a hotel near East Midlands Airport.

He sent a text message to the individual he thought was the father of the girl, providing directions to his hotel room.

Unbeknownst to him, law enforcement officers had been monitoring his online activities and were aware of his plans.

When he answered the door, dressed only in a dressing gown, he was met not by the young girl or her family, but by police officers ready to arrest him.

During the search of his hotel room, officers discovered a collection of items that underscored his intentions.

These included wrapped gifts, which he had intended to give to the supposed victim, along with sex toys, ropes, wine, and Viagra.

The presence of these items revealed the premeditated nature of his actions and his desire to facilitate sexual activity with a minor.

McKellar later pleaded guilty to charges of intentionally arranging to engage in penetrative sexual activity and attempting to communicate sexually with a child.

His guilty plea was entered earlier this year, and he was sentenced at Derby Crown Court on Friday, August 9.

The sentence reflects the severity of his actions and the threat he posed to the community.

Detective Inspector Paul Carrington, from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit’s Online Investigation Team, commented on the case, stating, “The level of planning that McKellar put into his trip to the East Midlands was extremely disturbing, and his Internet chat was of the most graphic type imaginable.

Within a short space of time, McKellar was doing everything he could, believing this was a real child, to commit horrific sexual offences.

McKellar showed no remorse during his interviews, and we will continue to do all that we can to ensure that dangerous predators like him are caught at the earliest opportunity.”
