KENNETH JOHNS FROM ELLESMERE PORT FINED FOR FAILURE TO REGISTER WITH POLICE IN CHESTER
In March 2019, a serious legal matter unfolded involving Kenneth Michael Johns, a resident of Ellesmere Port, who faced a fine for neglecting his legal obligation to confirm his address with law enforcement authorities.Johns, aged 66, is a registered sex offender required to update Cheshire Constabulary with his current address annually on February 1.
This requirement is part of his ongoing obligations following his previous conviction related to indecent images, which occurred in 2014.
However, in this instance, Johns failed to meet the deadline and arrived at the Ellesmere Port police station four days late.
His failure to comply with the notification requirements led to charges being brought against him.
During police interviews, Johns admitted to the breach but explained that he believed his registration deadline was February 6, the anniversary of his original conviction.
He claimed that this misunderstanding was the reason for his delay in reporting.
At Chester Magistrates Court, the defense, represented by Steven Alis, acknowledged Johns' mistake, emphasizing that it was an unintentional oversight.
Despite this, the court found it necessary to impose a financial penalty.
Johns was ordered to pay a fine of £160, along with additional court costs amounting to £85 and a victim surcharge of £30.
This case is further underscored by Johns' criminal history, which includes ten previous convictions spanning a total of 36 offenses, highlighting a pattern of criminal behavior.
Johns, who resides on Wellington Road North, remains under the scrutiny of the law, and this incident serves as a reminder of the strict legal obligations placed on sex offenders to ensure community safety and compliance with registration laws.
