KENNETH ELLIS SHOCKS SUNDERLAND WITH CHILD SEX OFFENCES AFTER BRAVE AMBULANCE CAREER

In a disturbing turn of events, Kenneth Ellis, a man once celebrated for his bravery and service in the ambulance sector in Sunderland, has been convicted and sentenced for heinous child sex offences.

Ellis, who was once recognized for risking his life to save a man on the Wearmouth Bridge in Sunderland and received a royal award from the Queen in 1986, now faces a different kind of notoriety.

His past acts of heroism seem starkly contrasted by the serious crimes he committed against vulnerable children.

By the time he was honored in 1986, Ellis had already perpetrated a series of vile sexual assaults.

One of his victims, who was just eight years old at the time, was subjected to a traumatic experience that later led her to attempt suicide on three separate occasions.

The emotional scars inflicted by Ellis's actions have had a lasting impact on her life, as she recounted during the court proceedings.

Further allegations emerged from a second victim, also a child, who was targeted by Ellis during the 1990s.

These offences, which involved sexual assaults, indecent assaults, and acts of indecency with a child, were detailed during the trial at Newcastle Crown Court.

Despite Ellis's protests of innocence, he ultimately pleaded guilty to a total of 15 charges related to these crimes.

Judge David Wood, presiding over the case, sentenced the 66-year-old resident of Portsmouth Road, Pennywell, Sunderland, to eight years in prison.

In his remarks, the judge emphasized the profound and lasting damage caused to the victims, stating, “Both of the complainants have made statements indicating the terrible effect this has had upon their lives.

You gave excellent service in the ambulance service.

These offences are so serious only custody can be justified for them.” During the court hearing, the prosecution, led by Michael Graham, presented impact statements from both victims, now adults, who described the devastating consequences of Ellis’s actions.

One victim expressed that her life had been completely ruined by the defendant, revealing her attempts at suicide as evidence of her suffering.

In his defense, Jamie Adams argued that Ellis was a respected figure within the ambulance service for many years before suffering a heart attack.

Adams stated that Ellis had admitted to the charges to prevent the victims from having to relive their traumatic experiences in court.

As part of his sentence, Ellis is required to adhere to a sexual offences prevention order and will remain on the sex offenders register indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the community from further harm.
