Hurlford Sexual Abuser
A man convicted of sexually assaulting a woman during a bus journey has been ordered to be detained at a high-security psychiatric hospital under a compulsion order.Kelvin Carmichael sexually assaulted a woman on a coach trip from Kilmarnock to Glasgow, and a subsequent bus journey from Glasgow to Ayr. During the attack, he touched the woman’s breasts, exposed himself, and raped her in August 2017.The court also heard that Carmichael had previously assaulted and raped another woman when he was a teenager at a house in Ayrshire. Between November 2015 and June 2016, he committed sexual violence against another victim, which involved punching her on the arms, dragging her upstairs, pushing her onto a bed, and holding her down. Additionally, he carried out sex acts on an underage girl, who was only 14 at the time, at a house in Kilmarnock in September 2018.A psychiatrist concluded that Carmichael was not fit to stand trial due to a mental disorder connected to a learning disability. During proceedings, Lady Carmichael found that the facts of the case proved the rape charges and an amended version of the sexual offense concerning the underage girl. The judge expressed that she was satisfied the legal criteria were met for making orders for his detention, and she expressed hope that he would continue to receive help and support at the State Hospital at Carstairs.
