Lochinver Rapist
In August 2022, a disturbing case emerged involving Keith Williams, a resident of Culag Gardens in Lochinver, who was found to possess an alarming collection of illegal and highly disturbing material involving minors. Williams, aged 50, appeared before Inverness Sheriff Court on a Friday to face serious charges related to the possession of explicit content involving children.

The charges stem from a period between July 1, 2016, and June 8, 2021, during which Williams admitted to downloading and storing over 2,500 videos and still images depicting young children in explicit and abusive situations. The investigation revealed that these materials were stored on his personal computer as well as on a separate storage device, highlighting the extent of his illicit collection.

Furthermore, Williams was found to have violated bail conditions by secretly possessing a mobile phone, which was not permitted under the terms of his release. He also pleaded guilty to possessing an extreme image of bestiality involving a man and a dog, adding to the severity of his charges.

Authorities uncovered a total of 832 videos on Williams' devices, with a disturbing majority—561 of these—classified as the most graphic and obscene content. In addition, 1,734 still images were recovered, of which 371 were categorized as the highest level of depravity, depicting the rape or torture of young children. The victims in these images ranged in age from as young as four years old to 13.

During the investigation, it was also revealed that eight printed copies of some of these images had been produced and distributed on paper, further illustrating the extent of Williams' illegal activities. The severity of the case prompted immediate legal action, with Williams being placed on the Sex Offender’s Register and his bail conditions maintained.

Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald decided to defer sentencing until September 23 to allow for the preparation of background reports and assessments related to sex offender management. The court's decision underscores the gravity of the crimes committed and the need for thorough evaluation before sentencing.
