Kemnay Rapist
In May 2022, a man from Kemnay, Aberdeenshire, Keith Donald, was handed a lengthy prison sentence after being convicted of a series of heinous sexual offences spanning nearly a decade. The court heard that Donald had committed multiple acts of sexual violence, including rapes and attempted rapes, against three women over a period of nine years, demonstrating a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior.

During the proceedings at the High Court in Edinburgh, Judge Simon Collins QC sentenced Donald to ten years in prison for his crimes. The judge emphasized that such a severe custodial sentence was the only appropriate response given the gravity of the offences. Additionally, Donald was ordered to remain under supervision for an extra four years following his release, with a stern warning that any breach of license conditions could result in his return to incarceration.

The judge pointed out that the evidence accepted by the jury clearly indicated a pattern of abuse and violence that Donald had inflicted over many years. It was noted that Donald showed no remorse or empathy for his victims; instead, he attempted to shift blame onto them, further highlighting his lack of remorse.

Keith Donald, aged 42 at the time of sentencing, had previously denied the charges during an earlier trial but was ultimately convicted of eight offences. These included four counts of rape, one attempted rape, and a sexual assault. The court also found him guilty of attacking two victims in ways that endangered their lives.

The first known assault occurred in 2004 at an address in Inverurie, Aberdeenshire, where Donald raped a woman after pushing her onto a bed and pulling down her clothing. During this attack, he physically assaulted her by hitting her on the head and body, and he pinned her against a wall by pushing furniture against her. He later attacked her again in 2006, raping her once more.

In May of that year, Donald carried out a particularly violent assault on the same woman, pushing her to the ground, grabbing her by the neck, and restricting her breathing as he throttled her and repeatedly punched her in the head. This attack was life-threatening and demonstrated a clear escalation in violence.

In 2010, Donald targeted a second woman at her home in Kemnay. While she was asleep, he took her mobile phone, damaged it, and then attempted to rape her. During this assault, he also strangled her by seizing her throat and pushed her onto a bed, struggling with her during the attack.

The third victim was assaulted in 2013 at a house in Kemnay. Donald subjected her to a sexual assault and rape, during which he restrained her arms and again gripped her by the neck, restricting her breathing and endangering her life.

Following his sentencing, Donald was informed that he would be placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely. He observed the proceedings via a video link from prison, reflecting the seriousness with which the court viewed his crimes and the ongoing risk he poses to the public.
