KATHRYN HENDRIKS FROM HARTBURN FACES COURT OVER PASSPORT AND SEX OFFENDER RULES VIOLATION IN TEESSIDE

In November 2019, Kathryn Ann Hendriks, a registered sex offender residing in Hartburn, found herself back in court on charges related to her failure to comply with legal obligations following her previous conviction. Hendriks, aged 51, had previously been convicted in 2014 for producing indecent images of children, a serious offence that resulted in her being placed on the sex offenders register. This registration imposed strict notification requirements, which she was legally obliged to follow.

Despite these obligations, Hendriks deliberately breached her registration conditions by establishing multiple online aliases—namely OMG Terasaki, Deep Terasaki, and Terasaki X—and creating an email account under a different name. Her actions also included applying for a passport, a move that required her to inform authorities, but she failed to do so. Her decision to travel abroad, specifically to Abu Dhabi, was made without proper notification, raising concerns about her compliance with the law.

Hendriks’ case was brought before Teesside Magistrates' Court, where she pleaded guilty to five charges related to her failure to adhere to the registration and notification requirements. The court heard that she had not only set up multiple aliases but also attempted to conceal her plans to travel internationally. Magistrates sentenced her to an 18-month community order, which includes the completion of 25 days of rehabilitation activities. Additionally, she was ordered to observe a six-week curfew, restricting her movement during that period.

During an earlier hearing, prosecutor Natalie Robinson outlined Hendriks’ previous sentence, which was a 15-month prison term suspended for 24 months, handed down in October 2014. As part of her registration duties, Hendriks was required to notify authorities of any significant changes in her circumstances within three days. Since her initial conviction, she had been subject to regular monitoring, with police officers visiting her home 25 times between October 2014 and January of the current year. During one such visit, officers confirmed that Hendriks did not possess an internet connection or a mobile phone, which was in line with her compliance at the time.

However, in April, police received a call from Hendriks herself, who disclosed her intention to travel abroad and admitted she had applied for a passport. She was advised to register her travel plans with the local police station, but she failed to do so. Further inquiries with the passport office revealed that a passport had already been issued to her a month prior. This led to her arrest for failing to notify authorities about her passport application. Her home was subsequently searched on May 5, during which police found that she had installed internet access and possessed a mobile phone.

Examination of her devices uncovered her use of various usernames and an email address linked to her online activities, as well as evidence of her planning a trip to Abu Dhabi. Initially, Hendriks denied ownership of the phone, claiming it belonged to her deceased father, but she later admitted the truth. Her actions and the evidence collected highlighted her ongoing attempts to evade the legal restrictions placed upon her as a registered sex offender, raising serious concerns about her compliance and the potential risks involved.
