KATANA PARIS FROM MANCHESTER SEXUALLY ASSAULTS PRISON STAFF AT FOREST BANK
In a disturbing series of incidents at HMP Forest Bank in Salford, Manchester, Katana Paris, a 27-year-old woman serving time for previous sexual offenses, committed further acts of sexual assault against prison staff members. The events unfolded during routine duties, highlighting the ongoing risks faced by prison officers working in vulnerable environments.
On a morning in September 2023, a female prison officer was performing her duty of serving breakfast to Paris, who was then incarcerated for a sexual assault conviction involving a nurse.
Accompanied by two fellow inmates, the officer approached Paris’s cell at approximately 7:50 am to deliver her meal.
Uncharacteristically, Paris stepped out of her cell, which was unusual as prisoners typically remain inside during meal times.
When the officer asked her to step back, Paris ignored the request and instead placed her hand on the officer’s hand, sliding her fingers between her knuckles in an inappropriate manner.
This unexpected behavior shocked the officer, who quickly moved away, but Paris’s actions did not end there.
According to court reports, after the initial incident, Paris’s fellow inmates continued to serve her breakfast.
However, she suddenly became visibly excited, jumping up and down, before approaching the female officer again.
Without warning or verbal provocation, Paris reached out and inappropriately touched her genital area.
The officer, visibly shocked and in disbelief, was unable to respond immediately but reported the incident afterward.
One of the inmates present at the scene asked if Paris had just touched the officer, to which the inmate confirmed, “Yes, she just touched me.” The following day, during lunchtime, a male prison officer was tasked with delivering food to Paris’s cell.
As he unlocked the hatch and passed her the meal, Paris became aggressive.
She reached through the hatch and grabbed his genitals, an act that left the officer feeling violated and compelled him to use his physical strength to push her back into her cell.
These repeated acts of sexual misconduct by Paris, who has a long history of offenses, underscore the ongoing dangers faced by prison staff.
Paris’s criminal record is extensive, with convictions totaling 87 offenses, including multiple instances of sexual assault by touching.
Notably, she previously received a 37-month sentence after pulling a nurse towards her genitals while hospitalized.
Her current actions led to her admitting two counts of sexual assault in court.
At Manchester Crown Court, Judge Nicholas Dean KC sentenced Paris to an additional six months in prison, which will be added to her existing sentence.
The judge emphasized the vulnerability of prison officers, describing them as emergency workers who deserve protection under the law.
He expressed concern over Paris’s apparent lack of remorse, stating, “I am not convinced you have shown any significant remorse.
It seems to me you regard what you did as being rather trivial.” Following her sentencing, Paris was transferred to HMP Swaleside.
She will also be required to register as a sex offender for five years, reflecting the seriousness of her repeated offenses and the court’s recognition of the need for ongoing monitoring and protection of the public and prison staff alike.
