KARL PITCHER AND SHOCKING CHILD ABUSE IN SOMERSET

A man from Somerset who committed heinous acts of sexual assault against four young children, including a two-year-old girl, has been sentenced to prison.

The sentencing took place at Taunton Crown Court on June 8, where Karl Pitcher was convicted of 11 counts of indecent assault spanning the 1990s and early 2000s.

Karl Pitcher, aged 54 and residing in Great Orchard, Ilchester, was handed a prison term of ten years and four months.

In addition to his incarceration, the court imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, restricting his future conduct and ensuring he remains under supervision.

Furthermore, Pitcher was ordered to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life, a measure designed to protect the community from potential future offenses.

During the court proceedings, Judge Millard, who presided over the case, described Pitcher as a "predator" due to the nature and duration of his crimes.

The court heard that Pitcher had exploited four girls, whose ages ranged from just two years old to 14, over multiple occasions.

The police investigation was triggered when two of Pitcher’s victims came forward in 2020, prompting a detailed inquiry.

The police investigation uncovered additional cases from the early 2000s, which had been previously investigated but could not be prosecuted at that time due to insufficient evidence.

The case highlights the importance of persistence and the courage of victims in seeking justice, even years after the abuse occurred.

Two of Pitcher’s victims provided emotional testimonies during the trial, describing the profound and lasting impact of his abuse.

One victim recounted feeling vulnerable and exploited, stating, "He knew I was vulnerable and used that to his advantage.

He destroyed my confidence.

I spent years trying to rebuild my life, only to be forced to relive it all during the trial.

I want to thank the police for their dedication and for securing this outcome.

It’s a relief to finally be believed." Another victim expressed her relief upon hearing the guilty verdict, saying, "When the jury reached a verdict, I cried with relief.

It meant the truth was finally acknowledged, and we, as victims, are finally receiving the justice we deserve.

I hope that sharing my story encourages others to come forward and seek help." Following the sentencing, PC Victoria Doble, the investigating officer, praised the bravery of the victims.

She emphasized their strength in reporting the crimes and supporting the investigation, adding, "Pitcher is a horrendous criminal who has exploited young children and caused lasting harm.

I hope this conviction encourages other victims of both recent and historical abuse to come forward.

This sentence may also provide some closure for those affected." Judge Millard also acknowledged the courage of the women who testified against Pitcher, condemning his actions and lack of remorse.

He stated, "You are a predator of young girls.

Over a decade, you demonstrated a long-term pattern of abuse.

You have shown no empathy for your victims.

These women are strong for coming forward, and they do not deserve to hear your continual denial." This case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and support for victims of sexual abuse, and the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to bring offenders to justice in Somerset.
