NEWTON AYCLIFFE MAN JAILED FOR KICKING PUPPY IN HEAD DURING DOMESTIC DISPUTE
A man from Newton Aycliffe, Kane Sams, aged 24, arrived at his ex-partner's house carrying a can of cider and became aggressive during a dispute about access to their baby boy.Prosecutor John Garside described how Sams threatened to "make her life hell" when asked about his intentions.
He then approached an eight-month-old puppy and kicked it in the head with force described as kicking a football, which greatly distressed her.
During the incident, Sams spat at his ex-partner and forcefully kicked the garden gate into her legs, causing bruising.
He was later taken into police custody and admitted to assaulting his ex-partner by beating and causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.
He also pleaded guilty to criminal damage for scratching his name into a police cell wall.
Sams was sentenced to an 18-month community order with activity to address anger issues, a 16-week suspended prison sentence, a five-year ban from keeping any animals, and a restraining order preventing contact with his ex-partner.
Additionally, he was ordered to pay £385 in compensation, court costs, and charges.
