KANE HARGREAVES FROM LANCASHIRE JAILED FOR EXPOSURE ON PRESTON TRAINS
A 28-year-old man from Lancashire has been sentenced to prison after committing indecent acts on two separate trains passing through Preston.Kane Hargreaves, whose address is listed as Elizabeth Street, Burnley, was found guilty of two counts of exposure at Preston Crown Court on Friday, 28 June.
The court proceedings revealed disturbing details about his actions, which took place over a span of a few weeks.
On Wednesday, 10 April of this year, Hargreaves was involved in an incident aboard the 2.44pm train traveling from Preston to Bradford.
Witnesses reported that he was staring at and exposing himself to a young woman aged 21 who was seated a few rows away from him.
The victim, distressed by the encounter, moved away from the suspect and promptly alerted railway staff about the incident.
The staff, in turn, reported the matter to the British Transport Police, initiating an investigation into Hargreaves' conduct.
Less than two weeks later, on Monday, 22 April, Hargreaves committed a similar offence on another train, this time the 1.44pm service from Preston to Accrington.
During this journey, he again exposed himself, this time targeting a 17-year-old woman.
The repeated nature of these offences and the fact that they occurred on public transportation prompted a thorough investigation by authorities.
Detective Constable Ella Harvey, who led the investigation, emphasized the police's commitment to tackling such crimes.
She stated, "We will stop at nothing to deter, pursue, arrest and bring sex offenders on the railway network to justice." Following his conviction, Hargreaves was sentenced to nine months in prison.
Additionally, he was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £187, underscoring the seriousness with which the court viewed his actions and the importance of protecting the public from such misconduct.
