BOURNEMOUTH SEX OFFENDER SENTENCED FOR MOLESTATION OF BOY IN STORE
A convicted sex offender named Kanapathy Veerasingham has been sentenced to 18 months in jail after he sexually molested a 15-year-old boy inside a Bournemouth convenience store on October 23.The victim, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was approached by Veerasingham, who was 53 years old at the time.
Court proceedings revealed that Veerasingham, who was already under a nine-month suspended prison sentence for a similar offense involving another young boy at Derby Crown Court, admitted to the crime.
Prosecutor Clifford Grier described how Veerasingham asked the boy about his origins, put his arm around his neck, and, after pulling him closer and sniffing his skin, sexually assaulted him.
The assault was interrupted when another man entered the shop and struck up a conversation with Veerasingham.
The boy confided in his mother afterward, who contacted the police.
Veerasingham was arrested that same afternoon, initially claiming that he had only touched the boy's shoulder.
As part of his sentence, Veerasingham will be a registered sex offender for ten years, and he is prohibited from approaching children under 16, working with children, entering children’s playgrounds, or coming within 200 meters of a school.
His criminal history and the recent offense are part of a broader pattern of sexual abuse.
Court officials highlighted the impact of the Derby offense, which caused significant scandal and affected his family life, forcing them to relocate and rely on support from friends.
