MAN WHO ADMITTED HUMAN TRAFFICKING OFFENCES 'TOO ILL' TO TRAVEL TO COURT
A 21-year-old man who admitted three human trafficking offences - by forcing youngsters to engage in criminality and forced labour - has had his sentence further deferred until later this month.
Jedburgh Sheriff Court heard Kain Cameron, who gave an address in Gorebridge, was too ill to attend today (Thursday).
He previously admitted providing the youngsters with drugs and then claiming they owed him money, between September 2021 and December 2024, when they were aged between 14 and 17.
When one of the youngsters was aged 13 and 14, Cameron put him in a state of fear and alarm, demanded he pay regular sums of money to him, uttered threats of violence, threatened to kill him and threatened sexual violence towards his mother, and extorted money from him.
Cameron, who previously gave an address in Duns, also pled guilty to two other charges of being involved in the supply of ecstasy between December 2021 and December 2024 and breaching his bail conditions.
The case will recall at Selkirk Sheriff Court on November 24th.
