JYRIKI TURENIUS CAUGHT IN GLASGOW PAEDOPHILE SCANDAL BY UK HUNTERS
In January 2021, a disturbing case emerged involving Jyriki Turenius, a 52-year-old man from Glasgow, who was caught engaging in inappropriate online communications with what he believed were underage girls.The incident came to light after a vigilant paedophile hunting group, known as Cobra UK, set up a sting operation targeting Turenius, who was unaware that he was speaking to members of a dedicated vigilante team posing as teenage girls.
Turenius’s actions took place from his residence in the Partick area of Glasgow, where he engaged in a series of explicit exchanges with what he thought were two 14-year-old girls.
During these conversations, he urged the girls not to disclose their interactions to their parents, emphasizing the importance of secrecy.
The exchanges began innocuously, with Turenius initially asking one of the decoys about her schoolwork, but quickly escalated to more inappropriate topics.
He referred to one girl as his “favourite lady” and inquired whether she had a boyfriend, gradually steering the conversation toward sexual content.
As the chat progressed, Turenius requested explicit photographs, specifically asking for images of the girls’ breasts.
He then sent a graphic image of his own genitalia, claiming it should be kept secret between them.
The conversation continued with similar content directed at the second decoy, with Turenius urging them to “get naked” and warning them not to tell anyone, including their parents.
He expressed that he had seen other girls their age and proceeded to send further indecent images to the group chat.
Prosecutor Pamela-Jane Connelly detailed the disturbing nature of the exchanges, stating, “The accused stated that nobody needed to know and she [the first decoy] should take a picture of her boobs and send it.
He apologised for asking for such a picture but again asked if she was wearing a bra in the picture which was sent.” Turenius then sent a graphic image of his own genitalia, claiming it was a secret.
The chat with the second decoy followed a similar pattern, with Turenius telling them they “shouldn’t be telling anyone, not even your parents,” and claiming to have seen girls their age.
He also told one of the girls she could trust him and called her “gorgeous,” further manipulating the situation.
The group of decoys, who were actually members of Cobra UK, confronted Turenius at his home in Glasgow, leading to his immediate arrest.
During police questioning, Turenius admitted, “I did something stupid over the weekend and feel stupid.
I knew she was under age.” Following his arrest, Turenius was charged and appeared before Glasgow Sheriff Court.
He pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including sending written communication to someone he believed was a child for sexual gratification, humiliation, stress, or alarm.
He also admitted to attempting to send a sexual image from his home in Partick.
Sheriff Patricia Pryce sentenced Turenius to 200 hours of unpaid community service and placed him under supervision for three years.
Additionally, he was prohibited from contacting anyone under the age of 16 and was registered as a sex offender.
The court was informed that Turenius’s actions included asking the decoys about their personal lives, making sexual requests, and sending explicit images, all under the false belief that he was communicating with minors.
He is scheduled for sentencing next month and has been granted bail in the meantime, pending further background reports.
This case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement and vigilante groups in Glasgow and across the UK to combat online child exploitation and protect vulnerable minors from predatory individuals.
