JULIAN WOOLLON FROM PORTBURY SENTENCED AFTER VIOLENT ATTACK AND POLICE ABUSE INCIDENT
In a disturbing case that unfolded in Portbury, Julian Woollon, aged 46, was brought to justice following a violent assault on a woman that culminated in a series of aggressive behaviors towards law enforcement officers.The incident, which took place on Station Road in Portbury, resulted in Woollon being convicted of serious criminal charges and subsequently sentenced to prison.
According to court records, Woollon's assault began when he physically pushed the female victim to the ground.
Witnesses and evidence presented during the trial revealed that Woollon then placed his hands around her neck in a threatening manner, shouting menacingly, "I'm going to f****** kill you." Despite his aggressive posture, the woman managed to push Woollon away, escaping further harm.
The situation escalated when Woollon, instead of fleeing or showing remorse, called the police claiming he was the victim of an assault.
However, upon their arrival, officers quickly determined that Woollon was, in fact, the aggressor.
During the police encounter, Woollon's behavior deteriorated further.
He subjected the officers to verbal abuse, continuing his tirade even inside the police vehicle and at the police station.
His conduct was so disruptive that one officer was forced to leave her holding cell due to Woollon's unruly behavior.
The court heard that Woollon, who was intoxicated at the time of the incident, told police that he felt capable of killing the woman and that he wanted their presence there, which suggests a complex mix of remorse and acknowledgment of the gravity of his actions.
In December of the previous year, Woollon pleaded guilty to charges of strangulation and obstructing police.
Judge Michael Longman sentenced him to 16 months in prison, emphasizing the severity of his actions by stating, "In effect you were out of control.
The only appropriate punishment can only be achieved by immediate custody." Additionally, Woollon was fined £100 for obstructing police and was issued a five-year restraining order that prohibits any contact with the victim.
This case highlights the dangers of alcohol-fueled violence and the importance of law enforcement in protecting victims from further harm.
