JUDITH REID, LEICESTER NURSE CONVICTED OF CHILD SEX CRIMES, SENTENCE REDUCED ON APPEAL
Judith Reid, a 61-year-old woman with a background as a nurse in Leicester, has seen her prison sentence shortened following an appeal.Originally sentenced to four years for serious child sex offenses committed in the 1980s, her term has now been reduced to three years by the court.
Reid was convicted of engaging in indecency with a minor and attempting to commit indecency while she was married to her former husband.
The victim, who was under the age of 13 at the time, was subjected to disturbing acts, including being forced to observe sexual acts and being encouraged to touch her husband's genitals.
During the trial, it was revealed that Reid offered gifts to the young girl as a means of coercion and compliance.
Despite her criminal actions, Reid was previously recognized for her good character and her professional work as a nurse in Leicester.
Her conduct following her crimes was also taken into account by the judges, who noted her positive behavior since the offenses occurred.
The court's decision to reduce her sentence reflects a consideration of her conduct post-conviction, but the gravity of her crimes remains a serious concern.
The case has garnered significant attention due to her previous reputation and the nature of the offenses committed against a vulnerable young victim.
