Newtownabbey Rapist
A woman named Judith Evans, aged 33 and residing on Elmwood Grove in Newtownabbey, County Antrim, has been convicted and sentenced for serious sexual offenses involving a teenage pupil. The court proceedings revealed that Evans, who was employed as a teacher at Belfast Boys' Model School at the time of the incidents, engaged in a pattern of grooming and sexual misconduct with a young male student.

Following a hearing at Belfast Crown Court on Friday, authorities described Evans in stark terms, with a senior police officer labeling her as a "cold, calculating child predator." The court heard that Evans admitted to multiple charges, including grooming the boy, engaging in sexual intercourse with him, and possessing indecent images of the student. Her offenses spanned from March 1 to May 17, 2024.

In addition to these charges, Evans also pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice between June 13 and June 27, 2024, by falsely claiming that she had been sexually assaulted by the teenager. Her criminal record now includes a total sentence of four years, with half of that time to be served in custody and the remaining half on license after her release. Furthermore, she was ordered to register as a sex offender for life and was issued a five-year Sexual Offences Prevention Order, which prohibits her from working with children or vulnerable adults.

The court was informed that Evans and the young boy exchanged thousands of text messages, many of which contained sexually explicit content. She also sent him explicit videos and images, and the pair met outside of school on three separate occasions. During these meetings, Evans drove the boy to locations such as Black Mountain and Nutt's Corner, where they engaged in sexual activities, including intercourse.

The case also revealed the emotional toll on the victim. After his family discovered the contact and the police intervened, the boy ran away from home and threatened to take his own life. The police arrested Evans in May 2024. During her police interview, she responded with "no comment" to all questions. When questioned again in June, she falsely claimed that the teenager had threatened her and had raped her in her car. The judge dismissed these claims as entirely false, emphasizing that every aspect of her account was fabricated.

As Evans sat in the courtroom, visibly emotional and crying, the judge acknowledged her personal circumstances, noting that her two children are now under the care of their father. The judge also remarked that Evans was "struggling to cope with her current circumstances." While she expressed remorse and guilt over the harm caused, the judge pointed out that her explanations for her actions lacked credibility. The court concluded that her motives appeared to be driven by a selfish desire for attention and intimacy, which she believed was missing in her personal life at the time.

It was made clear that Evans accepted she would never return to teaching. A spokesperson for Belfast Boys' Model School expressed their recognition of the distress caused to the young victim and reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding measures. Meanwhile, Detective Chief Inspector Jill Duffie of the Police Service of Northern Ireland described Evans as a "cold, calculating child predator" who exploited her trusted position to prey on a vulnerable young boy, highlighting the severity of her betrayal of trust.
