A 66-year-old man has received a prison sentence after assaulting his former partner while she was working at a supermarket.
Jozef Zurak violated a court-mandated restraining order by entering the premises of the victim’s workplace, where he then assaulted her using a glass beer bottle.
The assault was halted when a customer intervened and took control of the situation.
According to Nottingham Crown Court, the incident occurred at TWO'J Supermarket in Meadow Lane, Sneinton, shortly after 2pm on February 15 this year.
At the time, the victim was stationed near a meat counter when her ex-partner approached her holding a glass bottle.
In an effort to protect herself, she tried to run away but ended up slipping and falling to the ground.
Zurak then restrained her and struck her on the forehead with the bottle.
A member of the public jumped over the counter to stop Zurak, who escaped the scene afterward.
Zurak, residing on Elford Rise in Sneinton, was later identified and arrested after police circulated a wanted notice for him three days following the assault.
He admitted to charges of assault causing actual bodily harm and violating a restraining order, leading to a two-year prison term.
