Serial Domestic Abuser Sentenced to 30 Months for Throttling Ex-Partner in Swansea

SERIAL DOMESTIC ABUSER SENTENCED TO 30 MONTHS FOR THROTTLING EX-PARTNER IN SWANSEA

A serial abuser of women, Joshua Jones, has been sentenced to a total of 30 months in prison for multiple offences related to domestic violence.

The court heard that Jones had repeatedly breached a restraining order intended to protect his ex-partner and had committed an attack where he throttled her to the point she could not breathe.

During this assault, Jones claimed, "Look what you made me do," after strangling her.

The victim shared that she now cannot wear tight clothes around her neck because it triggers flashbacks, leading her to feel she cannot trust any man anymore.

The court revealed that Joshua Jones has a record of 21 previous offences, all of which relate to former partners, including battery, harassment, sending offensive communications, criminal damage, and breaching restraining orders.

His barrister stated that Jones had a difficult childhood, raised by heroin-addicted parents, and diagnosed with disorders such as ADHD, PTSD, OCD, and personality disorder.

Despite this, Jones expressed a desire to improve and be a better father to his child.

The prosecution highlighted that Jones had been living in Swansea at the time of his latest offences.

Jones's crimes include an incident in March when he was at his ex's house, became aggressive after being asked about drug use, and threw a vodka bottle at her.

He then grabbed her, threw her to the floor, and strangled her until she could not breathe.

He also poured make-up and disinfectant over her clothes and subsequently sent her threatening messages, tried to befriended her on social media, and looked through her windows.

Jones was finally arrested in August after police visited him at Swansea Central police station.

The court heard how the victim suffered significant psychological trauma, with weeks of living in fear and experiencing anxiety and depression.

Jones's previous behavior underscores his pattern of domestic violence and breach of court orders.

The judge emphasized Jones's troubled background and warned him that he must change or face longer prison sentences, describing him as a "serial abuser of women." Jones was sentenced to 27 months in prison with a further three months to run consecutively for breaching the community order, totaling 30 months.

He will serve half the sentence in custody and the rest on license, and he was also ordered to follow a 10-year restraining order banning contact with his ex-partner.

The court appointment also discussed the importance of support services for victims, including Wales's free domestic abuse helplines.

The judge expressed disappointment at Jones's upbringing, emphasizing the importance of proper parental responsibility, and called his childhood circumstances "shocking."
