SOUTHEND SEXUAL PREDATOR HANDED A COMMUNITY ORDER!
A man from Southend named Joshua Bridgewater, residing on Westbury Road, was found guilty of a sex attack on a woman he believed was asleep.
The incident involved him forcing the woman to perform a sex act while she was under the influence of strong medication.
Court proceedings revealed that while the victim initially was asleep during the attack, she woke up and was fully aware of what was happening, as stated by Judge Samantha Leigh.
Bridgewater faced charges of coercive and controlling behavior as well as causing a person to engage in sexual activity, to which he pleaded guilty.
The court heard he had also tried to control other aspects of the woman’s life, including her finances.
Despite the serious nature of the offences, Bridgewater was sentenced to a suspended prison term, with 12 months for coercive behavior and 6 months for the sex offence, which together formed an 18-month sentence suspended for 20 months.
The judge ordered him to attend therapy and perform 200 hours of community service, along with paying a £1,000 compensation to his victim.
His legal representative emphasized that Bridgewater was seeking therapy and was remorseful, although the court chose not to impose a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
