JOSEPH PRUNTY'S SHOCKING CRIMES IN GLASGOW AND BARRA: CHILD RAPIST FACES LONGER SENTENCE

In a series of disturbing revelations, Joseph Prunty, a 59-year-old man from Glasgow, has been linked to a pattern of heinous sexual offenses involving young boys and girls over a span of several years.

His criminal activities include abusing two male scouts during trips to locations such as Barra and Auchengillen campsite, as well as other sites within Glasgow.

These incidents have cast a dark shadow over the community and have prompted a renewed call for vigilance and justice.

Prunty, who served as a scout assistant, exploited his trusted position to carry out his predatory acts.

One of his victims, a boy who was only 12 years old at the time, was subjected to abuse for a period of 18 months starting from when he was 14.

During this time, Prunty manipulated the young boy into pretending to a female friend that he was over 16, then coerced him into participating in sexual activities in the back of Prunty’s car, alongside the offender himself.

These acts took place at various locations, including the scenic sites of Barra and Auchengillen, as well as in Glasgow at a church hall, the Cathkin Braes, and the Pollokshields area.

Prunty’s criminal record includes a previous conviction from April 2014, when he was sentenced to eight years in prison after being found guilty of multiple sex offenses, including the rape of a 12-year-old girl.

His latest court appearance occurred at Glasgow Sheriff Court, where he pleaded guilty to additional charges.

Specifically, he admitted to engaging in lewd and libidinous conduct towards a 12-year-old boy between August 1996 and 1998, and to indecently assaulting a 14-year-old boy from June 2000 to December 2002.

These offenses came to light during a police investigation, which uncovered the disturbing details of his abuse.

Procurator Fiscal depute John Bedford outlined the gravity of Prunty’s betrayal of trust, emphasizing that he was an adult helper within the scout group when he committed these acts.

The court was informed that the abuse occurred at multiple locations, including a church hall in Glasgow, the Cathkin Braes, and the Pollokshields district.

The first victim, who was only 12 when the abuse began, was aware of Prunty’s role as a scout helper, which likely contributed to his vulnerability.

The court also learned that Prunty was living with his wife and maintaining an affair with another woman at the time of the offenses.

In a related case from April 2014, Prunty was convicted of raping a 12-year-old girl and sexually abusing a schoolgirl in various locations across Renfrewshire.

His crimes spanned from 2006 to 2012, and he was sentenced to eight years in prison.

His wife, Dorothy, aged 58, publicly condemned his actions, expressing her hope that he would face the harshest punishment and “rot in hell.” Meanwhile, his lover, Tracey, aged 25 from Erskine, declared her unwavering support, claiming, “None of this is true,” despite the overwhelming evidence against him.

Judge Michael O’Grady QC, presiding over the case, emphasized the severity of Prunty’s crimes, describing him as a “sexual predator who targeted the young and vulnerable.” He stated that a custodial sentence was the only appropriate response, given the dreadful nature of the offenses.

Prunty, who was already a convicted sex offender, was convicted following a trial at the High Court in Glasgow.

The judge ordered that he be supervised for four years after his release from prison, acknowledging the ongoing risk he poses.

Detective Inspector Mark McGowan of Police Scotland expressed his commendation for the victims’ bravery and resilience.

He highlighted the importance of reporting such crimes and assured the public that the police’s dedicated units would continue to pursue justice.

McGowan urged anyone who has been a victim to come forward, reinforcing the message that the authorities are committed to holding offenders accountable and ensuring community safety.
