JOSEPH LOWTHER CONVICTED OF SEXUAL OFFENCES IN FIFE - EDINBURGH HIGH COURT
On August 10, 2022, the High Court in Edinburgh delivered a verdict of guilt against Joseph Lowther, aged 42, for a series of serious sexual offences committed within the Fife region over a span of two decades, from 2001 to 2021.The investigation into Lowther’s actions was initiated by officers from the Glenrothes Public Protection Unit, following a series of courageous disclosures made by survivors of his abuse.
These individuals, who had endured years of trauma, came forward to police authorities, providing crucial testimonies that ultimately led to his arrest and subsequent prosecution.
Among the numerous allegations, two particularly disturbing incidents involved young girls, aged 9 and 12 at the time, whom Lowther is accused of abusing over an extended period.
The nature of these offences was deeply troubling, highlighting a pattern of predatory behavior that spanned many years and caused significant harm to the victims.
Lowther was taken into custody in January 2021, following the police investigation, and faced charges related to the sexual offences.
His trial culminated in a conviction at the Edinburgh High Court, where the evidence presented was compelling enough to secure a guilty verdict.
DC Kelly Clements, a representative from the Child Abuse Investigation Unit of Police Scotland, expressed her appreciation for the bravery of the survivors.
She stated, “The survivors of Lowther’s horrific sexual abuse showed great courage in coming forward to police.
Ultimately, it was their vital information that has led to his conviction.
He will now face justice for the offences he has committed.”
