JOSEPH CHAMBERLAIN FROM OAKHAM JAILED FOR CHILD RAPE - POLICE APPEAL FOR MORE VICTIMS IN LEICESTERSHIRE

Oakham Rapist
In January 2009, authorities issued a public appeal seeking additional victims of Joseph Chamberlain, a man convicted of heinous crimes against children in Oakham. Chamberlain, aged 72 at the time, was sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 11 years in November 2008 after admitting to charges of rape and indecent assault involving two young victims.

These assaults occurred over 15 years prior to his sentencing, with both victims being under the age of 13 at the time of the abuse. Despite the passage of many years, police believe there may be other individuals who suffered at the hands of Chamberlain and have urged anyone with relevant information to come forward.

Detective Constable Kieren Lockner emphasized the importance of support and sensitivity in handling such cases, stating, "We know it can be very difficult to revisit something like this, particularly if it happened a long time ago. However, I would like to reassure anyone who is a victim of child abuse that we promise to handle your investigation professionally and sensitively."

The victims only contacted law enforcement as adults, in 2007, which underscores the challenges in uncovering such cases after many years. Authorities are encouraging anyone who might have information about Chamberlain’s crimes or other potential victims to reach out. They can contact Detective Constable Kieren Lockner directly at 0116 222 2222. Alternatively, individuals can call Crimestoppers anonymously and free of charge at 0800 555 111, ensuring confidentiality for those seeking to report abuse.
