JOSEPH CASEY SENTENCED IN HARTLEPOOL FOR VOYEURISM OFFENSES IN MIDDLESBROUGH
In July 2023, Joseph Casey, a resident of Arncliffe Gardens, located off Park Road in Hartlepool, was sentenced to a six-month prison term, which was suspended for a period of two years. This means that Casey will not serve time in prison unless he commits another offence within the suspension period.
As part of his sentencing conditions, he is required to complete 30 days of rehabilitation programs aimed at addressing his behavior, and he must undertake 150 hours of unpaid community work.
Additionally, Casey will be subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, a legal measure designed to restrict his activities and prevent further offending.
He is also mandated to register as a sex offender, a requirement that involves regular updates to authorities about his whereabouts and activities.
Earlier in June 2023, Joseph Casey, aged 45, pleaded guilty to charges of voyeurism, which involved secretly recording individuals engaged in private acts for his sexual gratification.
The charges stemmed from incidents that occurred in Middlesbrough during the previous year.
Casey appeared at Teesside Magistrates' Court to face three counts of voyeurism, with the allegations formally read out to the court.
Two of these charges specified that Casey had recorded another person performing a private act with the intent to view the image for sexual pleasure, knowing that the individual had not consented to being recorded for such purposes.
These offences are in violation of sections 67(3) and (5) of the Sexual Offences Act 2003.
The third charge detailed that Casey had installed equipment with the purpose of observing another person engaged in a private act, again without their consent, for sexual gratification.
This act of installing recording devices was also committed in Middlesbrough.
During the brief hearing, Casey, who resides at Arncliffe Gardens, confirmed his identity and admitted guilt to all charges.
Due to the seriousness of the offences, the case was ordered to be transferred to Teesside Crown Court for sentencing.
The magistrates ordered a probation report to be prepared on Casey’s case before the next scheduled hearing, which is set for July 25.
They informed him that his case would be sent to the Crown Court for sentencing at that time, and until then, he was granted unconditional bail.
No additional details regarding the specifics of the case or the evidence presented were disclosed during the hearing.
