JOSEPH BIDDLE'S HORRIFIC CRIME IN KIDDERMINSTER LEAVES COMMUNITY SHOCKED
In April 2018, a disturbing case unfolded in Kidderminster that has left the local community deeply shaken.A teenage male, Joseph Biddle, was convicted of heinous sexual offenses involving a 12-year-old girl, with the incident partially recorded by a friend, adding a chilling dimension to the case.
Joseph Biddle, who was 19 years old at the time of sentencing, was residing on Worcester Road in Kidderminster.
The crimes took place when he was just 17, during November 2016, a period marked by a series of troubling events that would eventually lead to his arrest and trial.
Biddle was found guilty by a jury of raping the young girl, who was under the age of 13, and of sexually assaulting her on the same day.
His admission of a sexual assault on the same complainant earlier that day was also part of the court proceedings.
The court heard that Biddle initiated contact with the girl through social media, which led to the series of disturbing incidents.
The first assault was recorded by one of Biddle’s friends on a mobile phone, capturing the moment of sexual misconduct.
Subsequently, Biddle raped the girl, an assault that lasted approximately 15 minutes.
During this ordeal, no protective measures such as condoms or other forms of contraception were used, leaving the girl with fears that she might be pregnant.
On Tuesday, Biddle appeared via video link at Worcester Crown Court to face sentencing.
The presiding judge, Recorder Martin Butterworth, delivered the verdict and imposed a sentence of six years in a young offender institution.
The courtroom was filled with Biddle’s family and friends, whose reactions included angry shouts during the judge’s remarks.
Recorder Butterworth issued a stern warning, threatening to clear the gallery if the disruption continued.
The judge emphasized the gravity of the offenses, noting that Biddle’s actions were motivated by a desire for attention and admiration from the girl.
Despite Biddle’s claims of ignorance regarding her age, the court found that he made no effort to verify her age, indicating a blatant disregard for her vulnerability.
The presence of a friend filming the assault and the fact that others were present to ensure the incident was not interrupted further heightened the seriousness of the case.
In his sentencing remarks, Recorder Butterworth acknowledged that Biddle had no prior convictions and was relatively young at the time of the offenses.
A psychological report revealed that Biddle had ADHD, but not autism as he had previously claimed.
The report also diagnosed conduct disorder, a mild learning disability, and oppositional defiant disorder.
The judge noted that Biddle had not used force but had exploited the girl’s immaturity and vulnerability, encouraging her to like and admire him.
The harm caused was deemed significant and lasting.
As part of the court’s order, Biddle was issued an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and a restraining order prohibiting any contact, direct or indirect, with the victim until further notice.
The case also included a powerful emotional moment when a man in the courtroom shouted, “You have ruined my son’s life,” as the proceedings concluded, reflecting the profound impact of the crime on the victim’s family and the community at large.
