January 2016 South Cumbria child sex offender jailed A man from South Lakeland has been locked up for four years after he committed two child sex offences. Joseph Batty, 21, was sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court on Thursday following his guilty pleas to the crimes. Batty admitted two counts of causing or inciting a 14-year-old child to engage in sexual activity. The charges relate to incidents on 25 and 29 September, 2014. They involve the same female victim, who was based outside of the county and spurned his illegal advances. The court heard Batty had been disowned by his family having committed the latest in what were a long line of sexual offences against females. Experts who carried out assessments on Batty concluded he posed a “high risk” of reoffending. Judge Peter Hughes QC imposed a four-year custodial sentence. He ordered that Batty, previously of Broad Ings Crescent, Kendal, should be subject to an extended licence period of four years following his release. He will be subject to the sex offender notification requirements for life, and must abide by the terms of a sexual harm prevention order indefinitely.
