JORDAN LOWE AND SHOCKING CHILD ABUSE IN DURHAM
A man identified as Jordan Lowe has been convicted and sentenced in connection with disturbing crimes involving child exploitation and abuse in Durham.Court proceedings revealed that Lowe was found in possession of a collection of highly disturbing images depicting child abuse, which he had stored on his devices.
These images included 37 classified as Category A, 28 as Category B, and 41 as Category C, indicating a significant level of severity and depravity.
The case took a further disturbing turn when Lowe was accused of grooming a teenage girl through social media platform Snapchat.
Over a period of weeks, Lowe engaged the young girl in increasingly sexualized conversations, manipulating her into sending him intimate photographs.
The court heard that Lowe then persuaded her to meet him in a secluded woodland area, where the two engaged in sexual activity.
The meeting was interrupted by a passerby, bringing an end to their encounter.
During the trial at Teesside Crown Court, Lowe was found guilty of multiple charges, including meeting a child following sexual grooming and engaging in sexual activity with a minor.
He had previously pleaded guilty to the possession of indecent images of children.
The court was told that Lowe, who was 24 years old at the time of sentencing, had falsely claimed during the investigation that he believed the girl was 18 years old.
In reality, Lowe was fully aware of her age, and he admitted to telling her that he could not wait until she turned 16, emphasizing that their activities must remain secret.
The court heard that Lowe, who previously resided on Ropers Terrace, Trimdon Grange, was considered to have a good character prior to these offences.
However, the severity of his actions led the judge, Recorder Ata Dallas, to sentence him to five and a half years in prison.
In addition to the custodial sentence, Lowe was ordered to register as a sex offender.
Addressing Lowe directly, Recorder Dallas stated that he was convinced Lowe had deliberately led the girl along from the beginning, fully aware of her age.
The judge emphasized the seriousness of the crimes, noting that only a custodial sentence could be justified given the nature of the offences.
Following the sentencing, Eve McDonnell from CPS North-east commented on the case, stating, “Jordan Lowe made initial contact with the girl via Snapchat, through which he engaged her in increasingly sexualized conversations over a number of weeks.
After manipulating her into sending him intimate pictures, Lowe went on to persuade the girl to meet him in secluded woodland where he then had sex with her.
“During the investigation of these offences, Lowe claimed that he had believed the girl to be 18-years-old.
In truth, he had committed these acts in full knowledge of the girl’s age, telling her that he could not wait until she was 16-years-old and that no one must find out about what they had done.
“The Crown Prosecution Service has worked closely with police to build a robust case against Jordan Lowe.
We sincerely hope that his young victim can take some measure of comfort from the sentence passed on him today.”
