Jordan Crewe, aged 27 and hailing from Caerphilly, has seen his original prison sentence significantly increased following a successful appeal by the Solicitor General Lucy Rigby KC MP. The case, which was initially heard in Cardiff Crown Court, highlights a disturbing pattern of harassment, violence, and coercive control inflicted upon his former partner.

In March 2022, Crewe was convicted and sentenced to 16 months in prison for a series of offences including harassment and malicious communication directed at his ex-partner. Alongside his custodial sentence, the court imposed a lengthy restraining order, prohibiting him from contacting her for a period of 12 years. Despite these legal restrictions, Crewe’s actions post-release demonstrated a blatant disregard for the court’s orders.

On the very day he was released on license in October, Crewe immediately breached his bail conditions. He forcefully entered his ex-partner’s residence, an act that was followed by an assault on her and the deflation of her vehicle’s tyres. These aggressive acts marked the beginning of a renewed campaign of intimidation and violence.

The following day, Crewe returned to his ex-partner’s home. Even after being recalled to prison for breaching bail, he persisted in harassing her through a series of abusive letters, messages, and phone calls. He also attempted to persuade her to drop the charges against him, further demonstrating his manipulative and controlling behaviour.

In May 2023, Crewe was released from prison once more under strict conditions that forbade him from contacting his ex-partner unless under exceptional circumstances. However, his pattern of harassment did not cease. Over the subsequent three months, he engaged in a campaign of coercion that included sending unsolicited texts asking about her whereabouts, activating a tracking application on her phone without her consent, and controlling her movements and choices, such as restricting her visits to see her family and dictating her clothing choices.

The abuse escalated to more severe acts, including the distribution of videos in which he simulated suicide, public groping, physical assault, and biting her face. The culmination of this abusive behaviour occurred on New Year’s Eve, when the victim was in a car with Crewe. During this incident, he shouted at her, threatened to assault her family, and ultimately physically assaulted her inside the vehicle.

The victim, in a heartfelt statement read aloud in court, described how her personality had changed drastically due to the abuse. She revealed that she was once a happy and bubbly individual but now feels like a shell of her former self. She emphasized that the emotional and mental scars inflicted by Crewe’s actions would remain with her forever.

Commenting on the case, Lucy Rigby KC MP, the Solicitor General, described Crewe’s conduct as “appalling,” highlighting the systematic nature of his violence and coercive control. She expressed relief that the court recognized the gravity of his actions and responded by increasing his sentence.

On 18 February 2025, Crewe was initially sentenced to two years in prison for multiple offences, including harassment, strangulation, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and controlling or coercive behaviour. However, following the appeal on 15 May 2025 under the Unduly Lenient Sentence scheme, his sentence was extended to two years and ten months, reflecting the court’s acknowledgment of the seriousness of his crimes and the need for a more appropriate punishment.
