MAN SENTENCED FOR VIOLENT SEXUAL OFFENCES
2026-06-17 10:11: A man who viciously assaulted women at home through a deliberate campaign of emotional, physical, and sexual abuse has been sentenced to prison.Jordan Coyle, residing in Ormiston, was convicted on 15 counts, including multiple instances of rape, on April 23 after a trial in the High Court in Edinburgh.
The court heard that the 31-year-old followed a pattern of behavior where he initially appeared charming and attentive when meeting women for the first time.
However, several victims testified that he soon became jealous and possessive, accusing them of infidelity and attempting to control their interactions and communication.
During his testimony, the women described enduring repeated verbal abuse such as name-calling and threats of violence, which eventually escalated into physical assaults.
The assaults included non-fatal strangulation against two victims, where Coyle grabbed their necks and restricted their breathing, leading to episodes of losing consciousness or nearly doing so.
He was also convicted of attempting to interfere with justice by pressuring one woman to withdraw her police statement through repeated threats of violence.
Additionally, he was found guilty of persuading a second woman to write a letter that cast doubt on her police testimony.
Coyle was further convicted of serious sexual crimes, including offenses committed while armed with a knife, against three women.
His criminal activity spanned from 2016 to 2024 and took place at various locations across East Lothian.
On June 17, at the High Court in Edinburgh, Coyle was sentenced to an extended 17-year term, with 14 years to serve in custody.
His name has been entered into the sex offenders register permanently, and non-harassment orders were issued for each of the victims.
Faye Cook, the Procurator Fiscal for High Court Sexual Offences, stated: “Jordan Coyle systematically used coercion, intimidation, and violence to control and harm women over many years.
His crimes included non-fatal strangulation, a highly dangerous form of abuse linked to severe injury and death, and a clear warning sign of escalating violence.
The evidence demonstrated a sustained pattern of domestic abuse and serious sexual offenses, causing lasting trauma to those affected.
I want to acknowledge the bravery of the women who provided evidence.
It took courage to do so, and their testimony was vital in ensuring this predatory individual was brought to justice.
Scotland’s prosecutors remain committed to using every available tool to pursue those who abuse women and girls and to safeguard the public from further harm.” --------------------------- 2026-04-25 14:46: A 31-year-old man has been convicted of multiple serious sexual offences, including rape and acts of domestic violence, in East Lothian.
