JONATHON WALKER FROM ST AUSTELL CONVICTED FOR CHILD ABUSE AND PHOTOGRAPHY OF MINORS

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of St Austell, Cornwall, Jonathon Walker, aged 32, was found guilty of heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of young children. The case came to light after authorities uncovered evidence that included explicit images and videos stored on Walker’s personal computer, revealing a pattern of abuse spanning over five years.

Walker, a flower picker by profession and currently unemployed, had meticulously avoided showing his face in the photographs and videos he recorded using his mobile phone. Instead, he focused on capturing his own hands, which were later identified as his through advanced forensic techniques. The police were alerted to his activities after a friend of Walker noticed one of the images and reported it to the authorities.

Initially, Walker claimed innocence, asserting that the images were not his and that he had been falsely accused or framed. However, the police employed innovative body-mapping technology for the first time in this case, which conclusively linked the distinctive features of his hands—such as freckles, moles, and tiny scars—to those in the images. This scientific evidence played a crucial role in establishing his guilt.

Further investigation revealed a disturbing collection of files stored in specially labeled folders on Walker’s computer. Among these were graphic images depicting him sexually abusing a total of five children under the age of 12. The abuse had reportedly taken place over a period of five years, highlighting a prolonged pattern of criminal behavior.

In addition to the images, investigators discovered a PowerPoint presentation created by Walker that detailed his abuse of a young girl, indicating a disturbing level of premeditation and documentation of his crimes. The evidence painted a clear picture of a man with a significant sexual attraction to children, which he acted upon repeatedly.

Walker faced multiple charges, including attempted rape, four counts of sexual assault on children, six offences related to photographing the assaults, and three counts of possessing internet child pornography. Despite his denials, the evidence was overwhelming.

At Plymouth Crown Court, Judge Francis Gilbert sentenced Walker to an indefinite term under a public protection order. The judge explicitly stated that Walker could not apply for parole for at least seven years, emphasizing the severity of his crimes and the risk he posed to society. In his remarks, Judge Gilbert underscored the gravity of the case, noting, “Not only did you commit these serious sexual offences against children but you photographed yourself doing so. You have a strong sexual attraction to children. I therefore conclude you are a significant risk to the public.”
