TEIGNMOUTH MAN JONATHON TRANCKLE SENTENCED FOR VIOLENT ATTACK ON PARTNER AT EXETER CROWN COURT

Jonathon Tranckle, a 37-year-old man from Teignmouth, launched a brutal assault on his partner, during which he repeatedly struck her with a child's baseball bat and issued threats to kill her. During a court hearing, Tranckle told the terrified woman that he would prevent either of them from leaving the house alive that night. He also shouted abusive and vile remarks, threatened to rape her, and accused her of provoking his anger.

Following the attack, Tranckle apologized and asked if they could reconcile. He was later sentenced to 18 months in prison. The judge at Exeter Crown Court described the incident as a "persistent violent episode," emphasizing that "this was an attack on a woman of such ferocity and intensity with the use of a baseball bat and a threat to rape [that] warrants immediate custody."

Tranckle pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH) and criminal damage. It was revealed that he and his partner had been together for 12 years, with their relationship deteriorating after she attempted to end it and started seeing someone else. On the day of the assault, Tranckle took her phone, found messages that angered him, and then forced his way into the house after being locked out. Once inside, he pushed her onto the bed, punched her repeatedly, and hit her with a small baseball bat while threatening her life, telling her she would be "f******g dead."

He also brought a knife into the room and said he wanted to "shut her up." The woman was left heavily bruised and feared her limb might be broken due to the violence, struggling to walk afterward. She described feeling exhausted, mentally broken, and suffering from night terrors in a statement.

During sentencing, the defense highlighted that Tranckle was generally a cheerful person and that his violent reaction was out of character. They noted that the couple had been together for 12 years, and he believed they were resolving their issues before discovering the incriminating messages. Tranckle showed remorse, attributing his outburst to alcohol and the stressful situation, and asked the court not to press formal charges. The court was told that he thought they were working towards reconciliation prior to the violent incident.
