JONATHON HOUGH SENTENCED IN SUNDERLAND FOR SEXUAL RELATIONSHIP WITH 15-YEAR-OLD GIRL
In a case that has drawn significant attention, Jonathon Hough, a 34-year-old man from Sunderland, was sentenced to two years in prison after admitting to engaging in sexual activities with a minor. The incident came to light during proceedings at Teesside Crown Court, where it was revealed that Hough had maintained communication with a 15-year-old girl through social media platforms, specifically Facebook and Blackberry Messenger.
According to court records, Hough not only kept in contact with the young girl but also provided her with a key to his flat, instructing her to keep their relationship secret from her family.
This breach of trust and the clandestine nature of their interactions underscored the seriousness of the case.
Hough, who resides in a bail hostel in Sunderland, faced multiple charges related to sexual activity with a minor, which he admitted to during an earlier hearing, specifically three specimen charges.
Judge George Moorhouse addressed the court, emphasizing the gravity of the offense.
He stated, “This is a serious matter and the disparity in age is an aggravating factor,” highlighting the concern over the significant age difference and the potential for exploitation.
During the proceedings, Christopher Knox, representing Hough, argued that his client was of previously good character.
Knox also pointed out that the relationship was not purely exploitative, suggesting some context that might mitigate the severity of the offense.
Despite this, the court sentenced Hough to two years in prison and mandated that he remain on the sex offenders’ register for a period of ten years, reflecting the ongoing concern for public safety and the protection of minors.
This case underscores the importance of vigilance and the serious consequences of engaging in inappropriate relationships with minors, especially when facilitated through modern communication platforms.
The community in Sunderland and beyond is reminded of the importance of safeguarding vulnerable individuals from such predatory behavior.
